Welcome home.
So many miles have you flown,
to survive the darkness and cold.
But now in tireless flight,
your wings shadow the March sunlight.
Your return sparks a hope
of rushing rivers’ flow
and summer breezes soon to blow.
*
Welcome home.
So many nights have you laid low,
beneath blankets of crystalline snow
waiting for the sun to wake,
to open the bars of your icy cage,
to set your buds free,
to stretch and breathe,
to bathe the world in vibrant green.
*
Welcome home.
For many months alone
has life been on hold,
the streets lay in deafening silence
keeping us prisoners within our islands.
Yet, now the windows have opened
the ringing of laughter has the hush broken
and children once more run barefoot
on an ocean of green no longer frozen.
*
Welcome home.
We have longed for your presence,
for the hope with which you bless us
in knowing that nothing is ever final,
but merely part of an unending cycle
of the transformation of life,
for after every storm,
the sun will once again rise,
and after the barren winter,
spring will once again thrive,
restoring life by Heaven’s grand design.
